Anybody else hear about this “Agenda 21”? First I’ve heard about it, but apparently it’s the newest UN boogey-man to be feared.

You may not be concerned about Agenda 21 but Florida Gov. Rick Scott is not going to let it happen in the Sunshine State.

It is an odd but revealing tidbit about Scott, a Republican who still remains little known to most Floridians.

Crowley Political Report listened to an interview that Scott gave Matt Bruce host of the Sarasota radio program The Captain’s America. Bruce’s website describes the program as a “member of the American TEA Party Movement.”

It was a fairly routine question and answer session between Scott and Bruce when Bruce asked this question:

A lot of people are concerned about this UN Agenda 21, sustainable development they don’t understand it, lot of people don’t even know what it is. We do have it in Sarasota County with what is called the 2050 plan, it is spotty to say the least around Florida. What do you know about this sir?

Without missing a beat, Scott replied:

I know it’s not good for Florida and so I’m going to make sure we’re not giving someone else the power to figure out our destiny. I’m focused on our rights as an individual state. I don’t believe the federal government should be telling us what to do and clearly the UN should not be dictating how we build our state.

Bruce ended the segment with:

Oh yeah, this is what people don’t understand this is the UN telling us what to do with our property and with our own lands.

Okay, Crowley Political Report was compelled to do a bit of research to find out - what in the world is Agenda 21?

In short, it a United Nations global plan for world sustainability that calls on all nations to do all sorts of things that would - in the view of the signers - make the world a better place to live.

Now that is an admittedly grossly oversimplified explanation of what others see as an attempt to bring about one-world government. Agenda 21 is nothing less than a United Nations plot to take over individual property rights, according to worried folks.

Yup, wanna add an addition to your house? Some day in the future, you apparently will have to get permission from the UN and the leaders of the ONE-WORLD government.

Forget that Agenda 21 was approved by President George H. W. Bush, he was after all a member of the Trilateral Commission - as was former Vice President Dick Cheney - and we know they have been secretly pursuing ONE-WORLD government for decades with the help of - OMG - Democrats like Hillary Clinton.

No less an authority than the John Birch Society continues to warn not only of the threats of the Trilateral Commission but Agenda 21 as well. From the JBS website:

The centuries-long drive to create a totalitarian world government hasn’t been derailed. Because of widespread opposition, however, the route chosen to accomplish the goal has taken numerous twists and turns.

The most devilishly effective method being currently employed to carry out the totalitarian scheme doesn’t call for military action or a series of sudden national coups d’etat. Instead, veteran promoters of the drive are using a “piecemeal” approach aimed at destroying personal freedom and transferring national sovereignty to the United Nations.

So is Rick Scott worried about ONE-WORLD government?

He certainly did not take the opportunity to ease Matt Bruce and his listeners of their concerns.

Instead, Scott said, “clearly the UN should not be dictating how we build our state.”

And when Bruce mentioned Sarasota County’s 2050 Plan, Scott did not try to ease his concerns there either. So apparently we may conclude that Scott too is suspicious of Sarasota County’s 40 year growth plan - which would seem to fly in the face of Scott’s belief in local control of planning. Maybe we can’t trust those local governments not to get involved with Agenda 21.

In fact, local governments across the country are being challenged by activists who are accusing them of changing land use plans to comply with the nefarious Agenda 21.

In Carroll County, Maryland, one commissioner balked at the county’s growth plan because, according to the Carroll County Times, because it, “focuses on the three “Es” - environment, economic development and social equity - which he maintains are all concepts in Agenda 21.”

So does Rick Scott really believe our nation faces a threat from Agenda 21? Or was Scott merely pandering to his TEA party followers?

If we take him at his word - he is all that stands between Floridians and Agenda 21.
